TOPIC: Recommended speakers to use with a netbook
#175
Recommended speakers to use with a netbook 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Can anyone recommend some small, lightweight, portable speakers that I can use with my netbook to play music during courses? (I recently changed from my laptop and found that the quality of music played by the new netbook was poor - poor volume and very tinny). I would like the speakers to play off the netbook (I don't want to have to plug them into an electric supply).

Hope someone can help - and I'm really disappointed to be missing the BFLG meeting on this subject - enjoy the session everyone!

HI Kathy
I hope you've noted that the BFLG dates have changed so you may be able to attend after all - it's 26th now.
I have some speakers that are battery powered but they are quite old - I'm sure they came from somewhere like Currys. You could try Richer SOunds as they are really into that kind of thing. Google them to find their website.

Hope to see you soon.

Unfortunately I can't make the revised date either. Thanks for the info on the speakers - any more suggestions also gladly welcomed.

Sorry you can't make the 26th.
Have you managed to get any speakers yet Kathy?

It may be useful info for other people too.

Regards,
Stella

Hi Stella

I think that this has been unexpectedly resolved. Tesco had a big 'sell-off' recently of electrical items and my husband picked up a small USB speaker for £3. The quality was ok but the volume was weak, so we bought a very lightweight headphone extension with a volume control on it (to save me messing around with keys on my keyboard). They were tested last week when I was running courses - the combination worked well and was relatively easy to use. The volume would struggle in a large room, but most of my courses are for groups of 10-16 and it worked fine for that.

My criteria were: 1) lightweight, 2) no external power supply needed and 3) straightforward volume control - and this set-up worked for all three.
